Does "/var/lib/imap/socket/lmtp" exist?  What are the permissions?

I assume lmtpd (the LMTP receiver is running [Cyrus is started]).

Where LMTP listens is defined in /etc/cyrus.conf

Probably not; as seen via your error it is already trying to deliver via
LMTP.
