problems encountered with CMU's imap referrals using Alpine MUA

Hi,

I'm using Alpine 2.0 (Kubuntu) as my MUA. I recently arrived at CMU as a
visiting scholar. When setting up my cyrus account, I encountered the
following problem: cyrus.andrew.cmu.edu works, but often (non-consistent
across mail sessions) I get re-asked for my password, but for
mail6.andrew.cmu.edu. Authentication does not work then, and I can't
access the mailbox I wanted to open (for that session, perhaps the next
session I have better luck).

I know (from conversations with the CMU computing helpdesk) that mail6 is
the backend storage murder server for cyrus on which my mailboxes reside
(but I have no clue about the technicalities). After asking help on the
Alpine usenet group comp.mail.pine, Mark Crispin suggested I contact
people knowledgeable about Cyrus/murder (at CMU) to resolve my problem,
which he suggested was related to imap referral handling issues.

To this end, I'm writing to this list, with, in attachment a log of a(n
artificially short) Alpine session that should contain the info necessary
to start diagnosing my problem.

It corresponds to me opening my CMU collection, which works, and then
trying to open the 'Drafts' folder, which does not work, because Alpine
starts talking to mail6 directly(?); i.e., I'm asked to authenticate to
mail6, which fails. (N.B.: the Kerberos error/warning appearing in this
log has already been resolved.)

Thanks in advance for any help,

Erik
