Problems with seen database after reconstruct

Hello all,

We're using a cyrus murder, running Cyrus IMAP 2.2.12 on Linux (2.4 kernel). 
We loaded in some users mailboxes from an old server by tarring up the files
and using reconstruct...  adding these mailboxes in a subfolder of their
account (rather than at the top level.)

Since the reconstruct new incoming messages for those users is marked as 'seen'
immediately, unless they are currently accessing their INBOX.... then it is
flagged correctly.  Users can update the seen/unseen status of a message and
that works correctly.  The only thing that's broken is mail that arrives while
they are not logged in.

Anyone seen these symptoms before?

Any possible fixes? (other than deleting the seen database)
