what does tcpdmatch says?

run:

"tcpdmatch imapd localhost"
"tcpdmatch imapd <your-client-ip>"

on the server.

further information on tcpd config (/etc/hosts.allow /etc/hosts.deny)

"man 5 hosts_access"
