shouldn't matter - it's really an interface issue.
unixhierarchy = no # default
su - cyrus -c '/usr/lib/cyrus-imapd/reconstruct -fr user.craig'
or
unixhierarchy = yes # optional
su - cyrus -c '/usr/lib/cyrus-imapd/reconstruct -fr user/craig'
- thus, you can then have dots in usernames
