local copies of messages

hi,
how can i save a local copy of message and change it
without synchronisation? i disabled the checkbox
"synchronise" on client's side (thebat!,outlook,
thunderbird) but it's always the same...it doesn't
work. 
so i think i have to do something on server's side, no
idea what.

can anyone help?
