Tight security

I 've just installed IMAPD and got it up and running (after discovering 
the hard way that PostFix also has a master command :-).

I do however have a problem. the imtest and any attempt to add users or 
connect from telnet all get the response of a password request. All well 
and good, but how do I create a user list to start with. I've tried 
being the root, me and cyrus, all to no avail, despite having set a 
saslpasswd for user cyrus.

So what am i doing wrong?
