Terrible performance and Upgrade

Sounds good in theory, but how would I do that? Just watching imapd.log for 
messages like

Feb  9 17:46:28 lvr1 master[24472]: about to exec /usr/lib/cyrus-imapd/imapd

and trying to strace them quickly enough? Or would it be possible to create 
an additional service in cyrus.conf like this:

  imaptrace          cmd="strace imapd" listen="imap.uni-koeln.de:12345"

??
