Rob is right (as usual  ;).
You probably created a mailbox named "username" instead of 
"user.username" which is the correct cyrus syntax.
I created such a mailbox and I got the same error message.

Unfortunately, there is no log message at all ?! No hint, no warning, 
nothing ...  May be I have an too old version ??

Question: What is the task of maildrop then ?
