Converting unixhierarchysep from "." to "/": experiences?

Has anyone reported any client issues by changing this setting?
SquirrelMail I can fudge the configs on easily; pine users, I know I can't
change (and I know their configs are typically hard set).  What about the
various GUIs?  Anyone have experience with converting from "." to "/"?
