sendmail needs filesystem permisions to have write access to
/var/imap/socket. A Unix socket is often rm'ed before it is re-created and
open.

There are many ways to archieve this, the simple one is to chmod 777
/var/imap/socket

Here, I have a unix group that has write access to that dir, and I have the
MTA and Cyrus belong to that group. It works well with postfix, and I
suppose it will work with sendmail too if you can tell it to use that group
when opening /var/imap/socket.
