message file create times

It is the ctime that I am referring to.  The mtimes correspond, as I would expect, 
to the delivery/received times of the messages.  The ctimes are more recent than the 
ctimes, except for very new messages.

The only thing I can think of now is our backup system.  That runs over night and 
will be copying files over the network to a tape storage system.  I will enquire of 
the person who manages that system.
