imap not responding/cyradm hangs

Thanks for you help Jon, I found the error. I was having permissions problems
related to the cyrus user and the /var/imap, /var/spool/imap directories. Once I
corrected those I no longer got the startup errors and I can now successfully connect
to imapd.
