Cyrus-imap and Outlook using imap

To all,
   I have always had a problem getting outlook (not outlook express), 
from version 2000 -> 2003 working with cyrus using an imap setup.  The 
applicaiton seems to connect ok but after a few seconds/minutes, it just 
  starts hanging.  I have seen references to IDLE but enabling this did 
not seem to make any difference.

   Has anyone else seen this behavior or have any suggestions to correct 
the problem.
