cyradm - problem with dotted usernames?

The . is the separator.  user.mail.admin is the 'admin' mailbox belonging
to the 'mail' user.  So you're probably trying to create a box for a user
(mail) that doesn't exist yet.

Check out the "unixhierarchysep" directive in imapd.conf.
