Hi,

The softwares that I am using are : BerkeleyDB.4.0 cyrus-imapd-2.1.8
cyrus-sasl-2.1.7 db-4.0.14

The only error messages are:

Aug 30 15:45:39 web9 lmtpd[30039]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest1266/cyrus.cache: Too many open files
Aug 30 15:45:39 web9 lmtpd[30044]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest639/cyrus.cache: Too many open files
Aug 30 15:45:40 web9 lmtpd[30039]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest1752/cyrus.cache: Too many open files
Aug 30 15:45:41 web9 lmtpd[30044]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest759/cyrus.cache: Too many open files
Aug 30 15:45:42 web9 lmtpd[30039]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest540/cyrus.cache: Too many open files
Aug 30 15:45:43 web9 lmtpd[30044]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest1007/cyrus.cache: Too many open files
Aug 30 15:45:43 web9 lmtpd[30039]: IOERROR: opening
/var/spool/imap/user/loadtest477/cyrus.cache: Too many open files

I am sure if I have "some kind of ulimit expressed on user "cyrus"". I don't
know how to do that :-).

Right now I set /proc/sys/fs/file-max to be 199,999. The server wouldn't
crash. But the error still exitst. I am think I need to set the files limit
for user "cyrus". But I don't how. Should I use ulimit?

Thanks,

Su

Please give us more information. For starters, your cyrus version number
(along with the rest of the output of the cyradm 'ver' command) would be
useful.

Also, what files are open by what processes. Taking sample lsof outputs
of lmtpd and imapd processes would probably be helpful.

There have definately been file descriptor leaks in some versions of
cyrus, but all known ones have been resolved in more recent versions.
