Dear dance friends,
Our club's *first ballroom social* is happening *this Saturday Night*, in
Rangos Ballroom on the second floor of the University Center!
There will be a 30mins American Smooth Foxtrot lesson at 7:30pm taught by
Natasha Nguyen and Cameron Hammel, and the social will run from 8pm to
11pm. This is a great opportunity for our newer members to get to know the
veteran members of our club.
For those of you who have never attended a proper ballroom social before,
here is a quick guide to etiquette for just about any real dance social,
including ballroom.
0. Wear something comfortable to move in that looks good. This isn't a
black tie event, but don't show up in shorts :P
1. Ask people to dance! You can talk and get to know new friends this way.
If you are a beginner, don't be shy about asking more advanced dancers to
dance with you!
2. Feel free to say no for any reason (fatigue, don't know this dance, etc)
if someone asks you, but it is recommended to sit out the remainder of the
song if you decline to dance with someone to avoid hard feelings. You also
have the option of saying something along the lines of "I don't really like
/ know Foxtrot, but let's find each other for the next Chacha!" if you feel
that way.
3. If someone makes you uncomfortable, please let us know. We don't
anticipate this being an issue, but of course we are here for you if it is.
4. Don't try to teach the people you are dancing with, especially if you
are a leader. I know I've been guilty of this on occasion unless they ask
you to; it's not fun for your partner. Seriously, trust me on this one.
5. Try to relax. Nobody is judging your dancing at a social; we are all
here to have fun and move with others to music, and nobody wants to dance
with a tense partner (it's stressful haha).
Hope to see you all tomorrow night! :)
