From melanielam at cmu.edu Sun Jun 9 13:58:45 2024 From: melanielam at cmu.edu (Melanie Lam) Date: Sun, 9 Jun 2024 10:58:45 -0700 Subject: alice-teacher Alice 3.9 Updates Message-ID: Hi Alice educators, Please let your IT departments know there is an update for Alice 3. Or perhaps you are the teacher and IT department all rolled in one. In any case, we wanted to get this release out before the new school year. The prices for some VR headsets have come down as new fangled ones are released. Hopefully, this means VR hardware is a little more accessible to your programs. We have also piloted a streaming (browser) version of Alice 3 using a service called Cameyo. Cameyo was recently acquired by Google. If you are interested in trying it out, please reach out to me. This is an option that works well with 1:1 Chromebook programs. However, the downside is the cost of hosting and serving, something that your districts may have to work out in terms of budget. As some of you may have discovered, the Alice.org website has been experiencing technical difficulties. We are working to resolve it but in the meantime, I have tried to streamline the process for downloading new updates. You can find everything directly on our Github Page: All Alice 3.9 builds: https://github.com/TheAliceProject/alice3/releases/tag/3.9.0.0 Alice News: https://www.alice.org/vr-ready-are-you-alice-3-9-update/ I hope you all have a rejuvenating summer!
