Your suggestion below about conflicting versions and plugins got me to digging in a bit deeper. What I eventually found was, yes, Java had updated, but for whatever reason, I had the NetBeans 6 plugin installed... rather than the NetBeans 8 plugin. Once I saw that and installed the correct plug in, it worked seamlessly! I hate to admit that I hadn't seen that mis-match before, but everything seems to be running fine now.

Thank you for your help.

Denise

Denise,
We are unable to replicate the error here, after trying on several different machines?

However, we have found that if you are using the Alice NetBeans Java 6 & 7 plug-in, when you have Java 8 installed, we are getting a similar error message, not exactly the same (I was using a Mac OS and you are running Windows which may account for the difference in error messages). And I did not test this, but I suspect there might also be a problem if you are using the Alice NetBeans Java 8 plugin when your machines are Java 6 / 7.

I respect that you have not changed the Alice and NetBeans installation, but perhaps Java has been updated?

And if this is not the case, the plugin might have become corrupt in some way.

You might uninstall the plugin on NetBeans, and then reinstall a new copy.

To uninstall the Plug-in
	1) After NetBeans has started, go to the Tools menu and select Plug-ins
	2) Click on the Installed tab
	3) Find the Alice 3 Project Wizard in the list of plugins, and click in the Select Box
	4) Click the Uninstall button
	5) Restart the IDE when prompted
	6) Download and install the Alice plugin

Let us know if you continue to have problems?

All the best,
Don Slater

However, just within the past 2 weeks, we can no longer bring the Alice 3 worlds into NetBeans projects. We now get an error message in NetBeans of regarding an ?unsupported source, binary format (image shown below). The full screen capture of the NetBeans screen is attached, showing the other projects that have been completed without problems. This error first occurred for us in Chapter 2: Project 2: Alice Character Movement using Arithmetic (trying to move a witch object to a cauldron object, without ending up inside the cauldron). The error below shows up, asking for us to ?resolve it?, but the ?resolve? button does not fix anything. The ?default package? folder is empty? does not include any of the objects, etc as in earlier projects that worked. (ie TeaParty in Chapter 1 worked fine!

Alice software and NetBeans installations have not changed in the interim, but now something is affecting our ability to make this transition from Alice 3 to NetBeans.
