We recommend Java 8… We are not aware of significant differences between the Mac and Windows versions, but we have not extensively tested the software on a system such as you describe…

We will be curious to hear the thoughts of the rest of the community…

Thank you.

I have learned this at least by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

My students had issues with the animations working correctly and some had the scenes actually freeze after they put in "do together" commands on the MAC side. It seemed to work better on the Windows side, but overall, Alice 3 feels a little buggy to me. Is there something that I should know as far as the version of Java to use or certain requirements that would make this program run smoothly? Should we only be using it on a Windows platform? I am now hesitant to use it for my next semester since we had so many issues.

My students at the time looked at both Alice 2 and 3, and really wanted to go with Alice 3 because they had a lot more scope for making better looking animations. I think at the time I also thought that Alice 3 was an upgrade for Alice 2, so that was what we used.
