alice-teacher Play Audio in 3.2

Michael,
If you are using Alice 3.2, at the top of the coding interface (IDE), on the right side, you have the class navigator, Scene, InitializeEventListeners, and myFirstMethod.

Click on the initializeEventListeners tab.
Go to the bottom and bring up the 'do together' block.
On the left side of the IDE, choose 'this'.
Drag 'this myFirstMethod' into the do together block.
Still on the 'this' methods area, go down to Audio.
Drag 'this playAudio' into the do together block.
Choose your .wav file.
Run

NOTE: If the music doesn't play, it could be the file type. At first the student had an mp3 that didn't play so we had to open it in Audacity and then export it as a .wav file. It worked fine. Character voices and other sound effects were placed inside the code area attached to each character...this was to run the background music without interference.

I'm interested in knowing about the audio as well, but don't see the screen shot attached. That's an issue I have with the list serve...I don't get attachments. I must be doing something wrong when viewing the emails.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Don

That looks like Alice 2.5, the students are in 3.2 this year and it's different. We didn't have any problem playing the audio last year, but they can't figure it out in this program without it messing up all the animations. I attached the audio to 'this'...do together...to play during the World, and it messes up everything below it. But if I attach audio to a character, it works fine.

Hi,
How in the world do you play audio throughout the entire animated story? When I try DoTogether, it messes up everything. I don't want a loop, so DoWhile doesn't work either. Please help.

See the attached screenshot:

In the upper right hand corner of Alice is the Events Editor, and there is always one event there, ?When the world starts, play world.myFirstMethod?

This means that when the user clicks on the Play button, the project starts by executing what is in myFirstMethod.

Notice in the Screen shot, that I have placed a do_together in this event, with the call to myFirstMethod, as well as the PlayAudio command that will play the sound file while the program is running.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

If the idea is to play the audio file for the duration of the game, then adding a "while world is running" to the events pane, and adding a play to the "During:" will cause the tune to repeat until the Stop button is clicked.
