Thanks Don,

That scoping problem seems like it may be what she is experiencing.

She is currently working on a web site, but when she is done I will work with her to see if that is where the problem lies.

Thanks much for the assistance. We are running Win7 pro on dell machines here.

Steve

Steve,

Like Keith, the world runs fine on my Mac OS X (10.10.2) MacBook Retina with latest Java 8 and Alice 3.2.5…

I am able to re-create the angry queen bug report when I try to consolidate all the keypress events by dragging the if statement from one keypress event to another keypress event block… This happens because there is a scoping problem (the event variable from one keypress listener is out of scope in other listeners)…

I also tried the world on my Dell Windows 8.1 machine, latest Java 8 and Alice 3.2.5 and it worked as well (same angry queen when I tried to consolidate the keypress events.)

Keep us posted,

Later,

Don Slater

Your program works fine on my system, no issues. I’m running Alice 3.2.5.0.0, my system is fully updated for Java, video drivers. Windows, etc…. Only tested it on a Windows 7 Professional 66 bit machine.

The key presses work and the object moves. I’m not sure what that means for you.

OK

So I don’t usually post out here, but one of my freshmen (and only one) keeps running into this same problem when trying to add/modify an event.

Her code keeps bombing with the “Please Submit Bug Report: Alice” screen popping up.

Her code looks fine to me as well as her object setup.

I have been using Alice to teach since 2008. She has tried this on two different computers with both the latest copy of Alice 3.2 and the previous version of 3.1. The problem occurs in both and on both machines. However it does not happen to any other freshman (I have 13) who are also doing events. This is her third attempt at making an Alice program that works and this same problem creeps in to each one of them before she gets very far.

They are all making games and therefore the events are necessary for player movement.

I cannot figure out for the life of me why this is happening so any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Alice file is attached and when I bring it up on my machine it gives the bomb immediately, before I even try to do anything?

Thanks

Steve

Folks -

*	sorry I missed this but I know there was a discussion about what happened to the people builder in 2.4 - is it coming back

In Alice 2.4.1 and following, you will find in Edit: Preferences: Seldom Used tab an option to “show he/she builder in the gallery”. Click on this preference and you will be able to find them in the Gallery in the People section.

See the attached screen shot.

This preference was added to the latest version of Alice to address the modesty concerns of some of our users.

*	dowloaded a file (bunny hop/broccoli) from the Duke page but it was awc (?) - what is that? doesn't work

an .a2c file is an Alice object, not an alice world (.a2w). You would use the File menu -> Import command t add this bunny to an Alice world you are building

*	getting a small middle school group going after school, looks like I can teach it in as an enrichment class for the last marking period, so any favorite middle school lessons that you can share are appreciated
*	one more, how can I print the code on handout?

In the File menu there should be a print option that will allow you to select what you want printed and then generate an .html file that you will then print…

Hope this helps… Let us know if you have ny other questions…

All the best,

Don Slater
