alice-teacher getting started

Hi folks - I took the workshop at Duke last summer and just started an after school programming group which went really well last week. I need a refresher for downloading the software. Where is the best place to extract the software to? Mine ended up in the download folder. Do I make the short cut on the desktop? Seemed like it did it automatically in the summer.

thanks - Carolyn

Normally, we have found that by returning to the code editor and then returning to the scene editor clears this up.

If not that, then save the world, quit Alice, and then restart it.

All the best,

Thank you for responding. We can't move the camera either, clicking on the camera control arrows does nothing and neither does scrolling.

Glad to hear it happens to someone else!

Sometimes when this happens to my class, if we move the camera forward, the mouse selection / moving of objects returns to normal. This especially happens to us when we use the "room" template.

Usually, saving, closing and reopening fixes the problem, but not the "room".

Subject: alice-teacher Can't move any objects

Hello!

I am new to Alice and I'm using Alice 3.1. Several times while editing the Scene, all of a sudden I cannot move any objects. I can click on the objects, but none of the handle styles actually work. The arrows show up, but clicking on them does nothing. We can run the animation or switch to the code editor just fine, but can't move the camera or any objects. This has happened to me and some of my students. We have to close Alice and open the project up again to get out of that mode.

I don't know if we have clicked on something or if it's a glitch in Alice, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
