Hi Dan - Please pass this on to Dennis.
Thank you and congratuIations Dennis. I for one appreciate all of the
effort made by the Alice community, from the architects like you, Wanda
Dann and Steve Cooper and Randy Pausch , to you Don Slater and
professors like Dan Lewis at Santa Clara University and Susan Rogers at
Duke, and to all of the teachers that have shared their curriculum and
project ideas with this list-serv and with me. Alice is such a great
way to turn kids onto programming in general, and to give them the
creative outlet to be producers of digital content, not just consumers.
It also challenges my students to be problem-solvers in ways that are
way more real-life than many of their other academic assignments. We
don't use answer keys in the Alice units, because real life doesn't
function with answer keys; instead my students are challenged to take
their "ok" solution, and make it a "better" or frequently "more
elegant" solution. Best of all, it's free, and I don't have to fund
raise for it. Alice rocks!
cheers!
Aletta Sauer
