1024 bytes in a kilobyte and 8 bits in a byte = 1024 * 12 = 8192 bits in a kilobyte

12KB = 12 * 8192 = 98,304 bits in 12KB

As to the color question. If you think in terms of 1 color assigned to each number - i.e. 1=red, 2=blue, 3= light orange etc,   for 64 colors you’d need 6 bits. You were thinking in terms of the hardware where color is encoded in one of various forms including RGB
