alice-teacher Alice 2 Workshop -- Introduction To Alice

Don,

I just ran through tutorial 4 in Alice 2.4.2, June 2014, and got hung up at the same spot - slide 19 and 20, adding the beach chair. I tried it several times, went forward and back a few times, closed and re-opened Alice, still getting the same error.

We believe that we have fixed the bug in th e4th Alice 2 tutorial with last Friday's release of Alice 2.4.2. If this is not so, please let us know.

Susan - Happy to hear you will be joining us at the Alice 2 conference. One suggestion would be to download the Alice 2 program, and go through the built-in tutorials. (Note - Tutorial 4 can get stuck about half-way through, just hit "next" at the top, if it does.)

Then feel free to explore the program. This would give you a nice preview and preparation for the workshop.

I'm signed up for this conference and looking forward to learning Alice. I plan to integrate it into my middle school curriculum next year. Is there anything I can or should be doing in preparation for the conference?

Carnegie Mellon will host an Alice 2.4 Institute for middle/high school and college instructors. Alice,an innovative 3D programming environment developed at Carnegie Mellon University, is designed as an instructional tool for teaching and learning computational thinking and introductory programming concepts. With Alice, students learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animations, videos, and simple games.

Alice 2.4 features a new set of 3D models from the Garfield(r) comics, courtesy of Paws, Inc. This workshop will explore the Alice 2.4 programming environment as an effective and engaging tool to introduce students in middle school through first-year college to fundamental programming concepts and Computer Science. We will also explore how Alice 2.4 can be used in multidisciplinary K-12 classroom settings.

This workshop will be presented by nationally recognized curriculum experts in Alice.
