alice-teacher Objects in Gallery different

Yes. That is what I did. Is there a way to insert the objects from a folder other than the default folder? I am on a network and the My Projects folder is not in the place where Alice was installed.

There are two possibilities:

1) Download and reinstall as you suggest…
2) Go to the Alice directory on a machine that has the complete Gallery, and open the required directory there. Inside you will see a “gallery” directory. Copy this complete directory and use it to replace the ‘deficient’ gallery directory on one of the other machines. Check to see if this worked for by starting Alice.

Whichever method seems to make the most sense for you.

No. When I follow what you said of how to update, I get a message File Not Found. Then when I click OK, it tells me to Restart for update to take effect. But nothing has been updated.

I do not have a good explanation for what is going on…

(The Space Gallery should have 15 objects in it)

The Alice 2 installation file is actually a zip or  .dmg  (Mac OS X) that contains the complete Alice package, including all the Gallery elements.

Try to Update Software  -> Download English Gallery option again.

1) Quit Alice if it is running
2) Restart Alice
3) Help menu -> select Update Software
4) Uncheck Update Software and check Download English Gallery (NOT Update English Gallery) -> this step should reinstall the complete Gallery
5) Click the Update button

(I am sure that you followed all these steps, included here for the other members of the listserv)

6) A dialog box will appear with a download progress bar, showing the download activity

Here is where it might go wrong for you…

7) The dialog box with the progress bar will disappear… BUT ALICE IS NOT YET DONE INSTALLING THE GALLERY
8) You will have to wait a few seconds until a dialog box telling you to restart Alice will appear (see attached image)

We recognize that this is non-intuitive and are working on a solution… But Alice at this point has handed off the unzipping of the downloaded Gallery file to your operating system, and so Alice waits until that operation is complete, and then the restart dialog box will appear…

9) Click the Resart button

The Gallery should now be updated and complete. Please let us know if you continue to have problems…

We downloaded Alice 2.4.2 for all the workstations in our school lab. However, a few of the workstations have more Gallery items than others. For example, SPACE has 5 items (Classes) in most of the stations, but on one computer there are a lot more. There are more in Environments as well. I tried to Update, but it seems to be up to date.
Could it be that some of the Gallery items were downloaded from somewhere else? But they are a part of the regular Gallery, not the Custom Gallery.
