Do you have check lists, as you mention, that you could share? They sound like a great idea.

Marty,
I have worked with special needs students in Programming with Alice. They do get really excited about what they can do. Mostly, it’s matter of patience and expectations. I allow them to take baby steps as compared to my ‘regular’ students and have everything mapped out step by step depending on the need. I use check lists. I’ve worked with students with IEP’s and one young man with Autism. All are high school students. I wish you the very best in introducing them to a whole new world.

Marty,

We have reports of special needs students have a wonderful and successful experience with Alice.

I believe that your question is an excellent one for the listserv, and I am just as interested in seeing the responses as you are.

I have cc'd the list with this message.

All the best,

Don Slater

Don,

Thanks for the listserv membership.

I’m one week into the class, and Alice is quite a hit with the students. You guys did a great job.

Two of the students are special needs – slightly slower than average. They are excited about it, and the hope is that they “find themselves” by learning to program. Have other teachers worked with special needs kids with Alice? Do they have any suggestions or insights?
