Hi Eileen;

Your course sounded interesting, but when I tried to access it I got the message 403 Forbidden "You don't have permission to access /~pelusoem/Alice_10_week_course.zip<http:/www.lycoming.edu/~pelusoem/Alice_10_week_course.zip on this server."

Hi- I am a 4-H club leader of a homeschooling 4-H club. I am teaching a 6 week project class to a mixed age group of boys. The age range is from 11-17 and also have a mix of abilities. Most are avid gamers and all have had experience with scratch ( we had that as a project area this past spring). We have no computer lab access but all of the kids will have their own laptops. So is there a free resource that can be printed out that can give the boys a way to learn on their own with support and trouble shooting from me? Any suggestion about how to help them learn and enjoy this experience? Quite of few of them may continue to learn and experiment with programming on their own.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Angela,
I use these Duke sites as backup (instead of a textbook) for a course that meets for 2 hours per week for 14 weeks. Students complete weekly assignments, 4 out-of-class projects, and a larger final project. We work together on the weekly assignments (for the first 10, sometimes 11, weeks) as I'm presenting new material, but they are open-ended so that students can creatively finish the stories any way they choose. The materials can be downloaded from www.lycoming.edu/~pelusoem/Alice_10_week_course.zip<http://www.lycoming.edu/~pelusoem/Alice_10_week_course.zip> (It's 107MB so it may take a few minutes). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Have fun!

Thanks to Keith, Susan and Eileen for the links that you sent. However I need to explain about 4-H. 4-H is a youth program that emphasizes learning by doing so it really isn't done by grades or subjects. I am really looking for a set of activity cards that can act as a outline for the boys to use to explore Alice and create their own programs. My class will only be 45 minute long and six week initially. It may be extended but that will be up to the boys . So does anyone have any activitiy cards that give an overview of Alice that they would be willing to share. Thanks in Advance Angela
