ARTSI Robotics Roadshow-in-a-Box: Turnkey solution for providing hands
on robotics workshops to middle and high school students

In this half-day tutorial, we will introduce the ARTSI “Robotics
Roadshow-in-a-Box (RRIB)”, a single point resource for those
interested in getting started in robotics outreach. The ARTSI Aliiance
is a consortium of twelve historically black colleges and universities
(HBCUs) and seven major research universities that promotes robotics
as a method for engaging students in Computer Science at all levels.
The RRIB is a kit that can be checked out which contains robots,
software and prepared materials for providing robotics workshops for
middle and high school students. It has been noted that robots] can be
instrumental in getting students interested in computer science as a
profession. The RRIB focuses on showing computer scientists as problem
solvers and not just programmers through activities with a larger
context.

The goal is that it will be accessible to those who may have limited
knowledge of robotics or limited experience in middle school outreach,
whether that is undergraduate students or faculty researchers who
might have limited outreach experience or preparation time. The kit
includes suggested activities for presenters to do in preparation for
an event, during the event, and in following up to the outreach event.
The RRIB also provides information about resources to provide for
participating middle school students and teachers. The kit encourages
its users to evaluate and provide feedback on the activities, as well
as any suggestions for improvement.
