alice-teacher s Digest, Vol 16, Issue 21 - Moving Objects in a List

Hello Shlomo,

	Yes, your suggestion to click on an object first and then either the ctrl to rotate or ctrl+shift to tumble works just fine. Thanks!

	On another note, we ran a few more experiments regarding my original post about being able to move objects in a world regardless of whether they are included in a list or not. It turns out that if the list is populated through the list editor when the event is created, then only objects in the list can be moved. On the other hand, if the list is populated outside the event as it was in a separate method in the world included with my original post, then anything in the world can be moved. So it appears that this event performs differently depending on how the list associated with the event was created.

The ctrl, shift, ctrl+shift with mouse combinations work on my MacOS 10.6.8

The only difference I didn't expect in advance is that you need to click the mouse button before you click on the buttons combination.

If you click the keys first and then click the mouse, the objects won't move.

Shift -> Up & Down
Ctrl -> Rotate around axis Z ?
Ctrl + Shift -> Rotate around axes X & Y ? Tumble?

All--

My students have Alice on their personal macs (mostly new) and on the school macs (2009ish). We get ?unknown error? almost every time we use the Save command and randomly at other times while we are using Alice. Even though there is an error message, the file saves. Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know what?s causing it?

Thanks for any help,
Deborah

I don't know what is causing this but we are on macs running OS10.4 and we get unknown errors often. I assumed it might be a low memory issue since I have a lot of programs loaded on the computers in my lab for other graphic design classes. Every so often we get a program that will not reopen and we have to go to a backup copy. I also find when I am grading projects I can open on my computer about 4 or so projects and play them, browse around methods and then I have to quit out of Alice and start again before I can open another project. I would be interested in learning more and could copy the error windows and pass them on when it happens if that would help.
