I did a project last year (4th and 5th grade) where the students created
original drawings of NC state symbols which I then scanned as .jpgs. The
kids imported the scans into their world as 2-D billboards. One student
played around a little bit and wrapped the scan over a 3D object from the
shape gallery (changed the skin texture in the properties tab). Not quite
the same thing, but it worked for my young ones.
