alice-teacher Errors when trying to playback sound file within a program

When this happens with sound files in Alice, I will open the sound file in Audacity, free, open source software for recording and editing sounds, available at 

	http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

and then export that file as an .mp3, using the "LAME MP3 encoder", a plug in for Audacity, available at the same web site. Even if the original file is an .mp3, Alice responds much better to the .mp3 files that have been exported in this way. It is my understanding that not all .mp3 files are created equal, and that the codec that Alice uses does not handle all the variations well.
