Hello -

I hope this finds you as well. I'm reaching out about an upcoming event at
Carnegie Science Center for which we're looking to fill a few more external
partner spots. I believe members of your group may be interested in - and
a great fit for! - this opportunity, and am hoping you could *share the
event info below with the folks of Accessibility at CMU.*

The event is *Scientists Like Me
<https://carnegiesciencecenter.org/events/scientists-like-me/>
<https://carnegiesciencecenter.org/events/scientists-like-me/>*on *Saturday
June 28th.* Details are below, including what participation looks like for
external partners. *Please note that we're seeking final confirmation in
the next couple of days. *We appreciate your consideration and
signal-boost, especially given the short timeline!

*Event Partner Invitation: Scientists Like Me @ Carnegie Science Center*

*"When it comes to getting people involved in STEM, one of the major
barriers is the ability to see oneself in STEM. Many children today still
see STEM as **something for white, able-bodied boys
<https://srcd.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/cdev.13039>** and
will dismiss the idea of themselves in STEM accordingly." - U.S. National
Science Foundation

In Honor of Autistic Pride Day & Neurodiversity Pride Day (June) and Disability
Pride Month (July), Carnegie Science Center presents *Scientists Like Me* on
*Saturday, June 28th, from 10am-3pm. *This event is family-friendly/all
ages and included with general admission.

*Scientists Like Me** spotlights Autistic, Neurodiverse, and Disabled STEM
professionals. *This event seeks to bring attention to systemic barriers
facing these populations in pursuit of education/careers; to highlight
their contributions, successes and unique perspectives; and to increase
representation and public education on the importance of making STEM
inclusive, diverse, and equitable.

As part of this annual event, the museum invites local STEM professionals from
these populations to join us on-site. Our goal is to provide an opportunity
for our visitors to meet & chat with role models who may differ from the
"traditional" image of who is (or can be) successful in a STEM career.

External event partners may share with visitors about their
research/projects; ways their identities & dis/abilities have shaped their
career paths; accessible STEM education and research; abelism and
stereotypes; accommodations vs. accessibility; the challenges of
intersecting identities; or other aspects of their own lived experience.

Some event partners may choose to bring artifacts of their work for
visitors to engage with, or to run a demonstration or hands-on activity
related to their field (but this isn't a requirement for participation).

This event also features special accessible/sensory-friendly programming
throughout the museum, adapted "relaxed" versions of shows and films, and
other special activities run by museum staff. We have a Quiet Room
available as well as various accommodations.

We ask event partners to commit to being onsite *for at least half the day
(10am-1pm), though the whole day is preferred (10am-3pm).* The museum will
provide tables and chairs for presenters as well as free parking. We're
able to offer a *$100 Honorarium* to all Scientists Like Me partners.

*Please let me know as soon as possible if you'd like to participate.* I'm
happy to provide additional information or answer questions regarding
participation.

Warmly,

 *(Mx.) Sarah Grumet *(*they/them/she/her <https://www.mypronouns.org/>)*
