From pel at astmtmc.cmu.edu Tue Apr 11 13:34:18 2017 From: pel at astmtmc.cmu.edu (Philip Lewis) Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2017 17:34:18 +0000 Subject: [6555-penn] 2 Factor Authentication Fobs Message-ID: <98B42DA6F3C8D5408B2DF1544D4D597854F6162F@TMC111.astmtmc.win.cmu.edu> For those that missed it, or if you have people who are not on the list in your department: I've distributed all the fobs to ASTM Personnel, but haven't heard much from the rest of you. I know a few already have a fob or the phone app, but I'm going to be returning unused fobs next week. If you need a fob after that, you'll have to go to campus. Also please check to see if your coworkers are on this list. If they didn't get the message, please have them visit: https://lists.andrew.cmu.edu/mailman/listinfo/6555-penn to join the list, or email me from the address from which they would like to receive building related messages. Thanks All! Hope to hear from you soon. -- Flip > -----Original Message----- > From: Philip Lewis > Sent: Thursday, March 23, 2017 8:54 AM > Hi all, > > Many of you know that CMU is going to require 2 factor authentication in > the very near future for CMU web logins. > You probably received an email explaining how to register. > One of the authentication methods available to you is a phone app that will > work on android and apple smartphones. > They also have small keychain fobs that can be used. > > Normally you would have to go to the campus help center, but I worked with > the 2fa authentication team to bring some fobs down here to Penn Avenue. > The fobs are not required if you have another method of registering, but they > can serve as a backup to your phone app should you lose or break your > phone, or in place of the phone app entirely if you do not have a smart > phone or do not wish to install the app. > > You can get some information on CMU's 2fa effort at these links: > https://www.cmu.edu/computing/news/2016/dec/1207162fa.html > http://www.cmu.edu/computing/security/authentication/2fa/get- > started.html > http://2fa.cmu.edu/ > > If you would like a fob, email me back and let me know a good time to come > see you.
