Hampton Township.  The scriptorium will be held on the first and third
Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m., with the first scriptorium being

2 & 16 December
6 & 20 January, 2010, etc.

Anyone interested in making a pavilion, Itex (aka Banwear) just got an order of 1000 yards of surplus Sunforger Marine Boat Shrunk 10.10 oz. canvas in 60" widths (they're calling it "colorless" which I believe means sort of light beige)?that they are selling for $2.75/yard. That's about half what I just paid in May for the same canvas. They also have 36" widths in both colorless and pearl gray for $2.50/yard. Normally they only sell full bolts of 80-100 yards, but the email says smaller bolts are available.

These are "seconds," but don't let that scare you - I've bought seconds from them before, and all that usually means is either slight slubs in the weave or minor color variation in the dye job. My personal pavilion was made from seconds bought from Itex in 1995 and is still holding up just fine.

I've ordered from Itex many times in the past and they are a great company - reputable and reliable, and the canvas is excellent quality. george balderose teaches the bagpipe sections and he's great. very nice guy.
also does weddings :)

I like the look of the bodran.. I have one, but keep missing the Pennsic classes.    Actually.. all of them sound cool.   And fun to do.. 

Would anyone be interested in a drumming circle /family oriented/ Fire circle  .  Where we jam?

letting those who wish to speak, speak.  For guilds and the like let me know

meeting, which will provide an ideal time to go into more detail with those
who are interested.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting this Thursday at 7 in

had some 100yd bolts.  I think I need 40-45 yds, but could come up
with a more exact number if necessary (I may be way over-estimating.).
 A full bolt would cost between $350 and $375 including shipping.

at my home in Hampton Township.  Scribes of all levels of experience

The third Thursday of the month is currently set for an open sewing circle.  That would be this Thursday, September 17.  Amazing how time flies!

The next scheduled sewing circle will be at the home of Ts'vee'a bas Tseepora Levi.  Sewing will occur between 8-10pm and all are welcome.  Please RSVP if you are coming to lefkowitzga at earthlink.net.  Directions are listed below.

Suggestions are requested for a good weekend date to hold a day-long sewing circle, preferably in October, geared towards helping beginners make clothes.

DIRECTIONS
The address is 5167 Rosecrest Drive, Pgh 15201.  Directions from the north are to
take the Parkway north to Rt 28, and head away from Pittsburgh to the 40th Street
Bridge.  Cross the bridge and head up the hill to Penn Ave.  Turn left onto Penn.*

>From the south, come into Pittsburgh either through the Liberty Tubes or the
Liberty Bridge and go towards the Arena to get onto Bigelow Blvd.  Follow Bigelow
and take the exit for Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield.  You will cross the Bloomfield
Bridge.  Go straight, between Young Bin Kwan restaurant and the Shur Save grocery.  
Go one block and turn left onto Friendship at the light, and then one more block 
and turn right onto Penn Ave at the next light.*

*Once you are on Penn, go past the Children's Hospital and the entrance
to Allegheny Cemetary and turn left at Mathilda.  Follow the cemetary, bearing 
left onto Mossfield Road.  When the cemetary ends, turn left onto Azure Street.
The Jehovah Witness Church is too far.  Azure is 1 block and bears left onto Schenley
Manor Drive.  Go one block on Schenley Manor and turn right onto Rosecrest.  The
house is the next one in from the corner on the right.

>From the East End, the best route is to take Negley Avenue north to the first light
past East Liberty Blvd.  This is Black Street.  Turn left onto Black.  Go through
the light at Chislett and up the hill.  At N. Aiken, Black becomes Mossfield Drive.

Greetings good gentles!
Let all know that thrown weapons has become an intergral part of the Sunday 
marshall activities of the Debatable Lands.  Thanks to Porfinna's pioneer 
work, and Elss's willingness to supervise small children (notably, our 
child), we had 6 hours of thrown weapons practice at the Washington Blvd 
site this weekend.  Thanks also go out to Alaric, who single-handedly 
doubled the number of targets on the range.  We are hoping that thrown 
weapons will become a regular part of practice alongside the already 
successful heavy weapons, fencing, archery, and youth fighting.  (All we 
need are a few horses and a trebuchet, and we'll have all the bases 
covered.)
When the marshallate is well-represented, like it was this weekend, 
newcomers will feel more welcome and more excited, and will be more likely 
to come again.  It was wonderful to have such a successful turnout just as 
some of the new students were coming to their first practice. (In fact, two 
of the students who attended last week's Barony Meeting were there.)

Please come and join us on Sundays for a wide selection of marshall 
activities.  The fun starts with archery at about 11AM.

meeting of the CHAT guild.  The CHAT guild meets on fifth Wednesdays
for a pot-luck supper followed by a discussion and presentations on a

broadly or as loosely as you like.

Supper is at 7pm, with talk to follow.  The meeting is at Baroness

Greetings!  Would any scribes be willing to help teach our daughter, Leah, who is painting her first scroll?  We will be at Washington Blvd tomorrow for Thrown weapons and archery, arriving approximately at 11:30am, and she is often bored and looking to do A&S by 1pm latest.  We will bring her pencil-drawn scroll, the rough draft scroll, a table and chair for her, and any paints and brushes we can scrounge up.  It is based on the Tres Riche Heures de Duc de Berry, so that is the color palette and technique she's attempting.

I'm looking at a couple of dates in October for this project particularly October 11th, the day after Hunter's Moon in Hartstone, or the 18th, the day after Crown Tourney in Coppertree.

This is important to the Barony-Marche as it demonstrates not only to the community, but to the city government that we are responsible caretakers in the use of open property.

Good gentles all,

I received word that my grandmother has passed away this morning. Her
funeral service will be on Friday in Virginia. Unfortunately, this
means I will be unable to attend Archers to the Wald, and so I will
need someone to transport the throwing stands and targets that I was
to bring to the event. If anyone who will be attending is willing and
able to transport several 5' long boards and 3 target rounds, please
contact me so that I can transfer them to you before Thursday. Thank

Archers to the Wald will take place this coming Saturday, September 26th at the Beaver Valley Archers Club located at 277 Rothart Dr, New Brighton, PA 15066. The BVA Club is a mundane archery club featuring over 53 acres available for shooting. The site opens at 10 am and closes at 10 pm., and is discretely damp. This year we are pleased to?be hosting 4 Championship shoots. The Youth Archery, Adult Archery and Thown Weapons championships for the BMDL, as well as the Kingdom Archery Championship for Henri and Elena. Below I have listed the tenative schedule.

12 Noon - BMDL Youth Archery Championship 
1 pm - Kingdom Archery Championship 
2:30?pm - BMDL Adult Archery Championship 
4 pm?- BMDL Thrown Weapons Championship

It's got a shield-shaped crest in gold and black with laurel leaves and that square crennallation type pattern on the top.  It's machine embroidered on a red ribbon.  

If it's yours, let me know!  Or if you know who it might belong to, that'd be keen also.

My good friend Dawn Marie was getting ready for archery instruction on Saturday?by removing her rings and other jewelry, and she now cannot locate her engagement ring. She thinks she dropped it under the tent by the archery ranges. She is quite sick about it, as it holds a place in her heart as a gift from her husband.

If anyone may have found a ring on the ground or wherever, please let us know. She or I will be more than happy to pick it up.

Also, I thought I heard that someone was going back to the BV Archery Club to search for some missing knives with a metal detector. If that person would be so kind as to also search the area of the archery tent, Dawn would appreciate it very much.

After the hectic holiday season the VIKINGR study group will be  
renewed.  The focus of attention will primarily be the dynamic effects  
upon European cultures (east and west) by the last of the great dark  
ages and early middle ages migrations.  Scandinavians, Magyars, etc.

Once a year, usually just before the holiday season kicked in, we had  
a Saturday night film fest.  Medieval movies: good, bad, ugly,  
hilariously awful - but great fun all of 'em.  Let's do that again.

On Tuesday evening, November 3rd, 2009, Baron Len will be presenting a  
lecture on the monolithic church period of Ethiopia, ninth to  
thirteenth centuries A.D.  The slides presented are from his own  
explorations in the Abyssinian highlands during the 1960s.

The location is Carlow University, Grace Library, Kresge Theater,  
before the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.  Presentation begins  
at 7:30 pm and is open to the interested public.

This is the second program of three in the series.  The third will be  
in the Spring, focusing on the castles of Gondar and the vicinity.

I know parking in Oakland can be a pain, but parking in the Carlow lot  
without a pass can earn you a ticket.

Regrettably, Cooks' Guild is cancelled this weekend.  Michelina is still
sick (and apparently now on antibiotics).  She's hoping to be healthy
enough to hold Cooks' Guild for October at the regular date and time (last
Sunday of the month).
Sorry for this -- at least this time I was able to post this in sufficient
time.
