While not nearly as filthy as last year, nonetheless, it has accumulated cups, bottles, wrappers, bags, and other garbage since then. It makes the site look terrible and is a potential safety hazard. It also casts disfavor on us as a common user of the site. The cleanup last year was noted beyond our membership. We will start up about 10:00 and continue until we're done. We'll then setup the site for everyone. I will bring garbage bags. I recommend that everyone bring work gloves for protection I'll bring snacks of some type for when we finish. There will be heavy weapons fighting and fencing following the meeting, and all are invited to stay and socialize until 5pm. Here's the details about my latest show. This is a spooky phantasmaganza, featuring a 1-hour opera: _The Medium_, by Gian Carlo Menotti (who also composed _Amahl & the Night Visitors_). You can read about the show's plot on Wikipedia, just search for "The Medium". The opera is completely in English. There will also be a medley of 'scary' arias, trios, and art-songs before the opera. Among them, I will be singing Schubert's _Der Erlkonig_,...I bet a lot of you know the melody to this notorious lieder even if you don't know you know it ;) The performances are Friday 10/30, Saturday 10/31, Sunday 11/1 at 8pm at the Waldorf School Auditorium in Bloomfield. More details are available at www.undercroftopera.org. Tickets are $15 apiece, or $10 for students & seniors. I would like to pass along some information about some of the changes to Agincourt this year. First: there will be no target archery this year. As much as I hate not having target archery as part of the event, the constraints of the site make it impossible to safely have target archery and fighting. There will still be combat archery in all battles. Details of the battles will be forthcoming from the Marshall - In - Charge. Second: Carpooling is STRONGLY encouraged, there is very limited parking at the event site. There are several areas near the site to park and ride with others into the site, and communication with your friends to arrange rides is strongly encouraged. Nearby Park and Ride Locations: 1) Route 910 @ Mingo Road (Rite aid Parking Lot) - If you use this location Please park in the area furthest from the store to allow for customer use. 2) Interstate 79 North/ Mt. Nebo Road exit (Exit 68)- If you are traveling from points south of Pittsburgh take the Mount Nebo Road exit, turn right on Mount Nebo Road and make the immediate Right into the Park and Ride Lot. (This lot is often patrolled by Ohio Twp and PA State Police, so it it very safe). This is just a few exits south of the Route 910 exit. Finally, Calling all Bards, Heralds and those who Aspire to Inspire! In between battles and bouts we would love to have to have an Inspire the Troops competition. So bring along your greatest speaches, poems and songs to encourage our fighters to fight for and win the day! I look forward to seeing you all. As a reminder, please pre-register for the event by Saturday October 17, 2009. Feast will be limited to 60 people. Since November's Barony meeting will be held at the Castle on Sunday, November 8th, we'll be moving archery practice there starting at 11:00. Any help that any of you could give would be greatly appreciated, most especially for loading of the truck (I have a few helpers who can be there for unloading only); I expect to be at my 'old' place with the truck by about 9:30 AM, and at the 'new' place some time in the mid afternoon, depending on how long it takes to load the truck. The address I'm moving from is 427 East End Avenue (halfway between Forbes and Penn, a block past Braddock); the address I'm moving to is 1707 Morrell Street (a block past the intersection of California and Termon, 3 blocks from where the McKees Rocks Bridge meets PA-65). There excellencies first requested the presence of their Baronial Youth Archery Champion Robert of the Debatable Lands and Lord Urho Waltterinen, who had runa championship shoot. A new champion had been decided, Joshua of the debatable lands, his presence was requested and he was presented with a scroll by Leah of the Debatable Lands and the regalia of his station. Next their excellencies called forth their Baronial Archery Champion Giovannin di Lupo who had run a championship shoot to determine the new Champion. He stated that the championship had been won by Lord Urho Waltterinen. Their excellencies summoned Urho into their presence and congratulated him on his victory, as they over saw the transference of the regalia. Their excellencies requested that Lord Urho Waltterinen remain and thus for his dedicated service to the barony as Captain of Archers and conductance of archery practice was he inducted into the order of the Gold Comet and presented with a scroll by Countess Aiden ni Leir, done in the manner of the Book of Lindisfarne. Also on this day, the Baron conducted a Baronial Thrown Weapons Championship in the stead of the current champion Lord Giovanni Magrino. His excellency called forth the new champion Lord Robert Bakere and congratulated him on his skill on the range. Finally the Kingdom Archery Champion, Lady Muirghein Gealbhain, was called forth and given leave to announce the outcome of the Kingdom Archery Championship shoot she had run. The victor of this shoot and the new Aethelmearc Kingdom Archery Champion was Court Baron Bataar Sogdo. Lady Elss of Augsburg was the lunch cook and in charge of the kitchen all morning. She was also my right-hand person all through dinner preparation and stayed until the very end - cleaning, organizing, drying dishes, and packing. She did an amazing job and should be proud, proud, proud of herself. 2. Master Alastar Scott MacCrummin donated not only his expertise and kitchen skills but the use of his oven and other equipment; which made producing lunch and dinner as easy as it was. Without his generosity the feast would have been very difficult to do and would have certainly been less fun. and last, but certainly not least.. 3. Mistress Mahin Banu Tabrizi was my supermarket runner, ace dishwasher, ad hoc cleanup coordinator, caffeine acquisitioner, sanity monitor, and singer of bawdy songs. The kitchen volunteers are the folks that really make the feast happen and I am forever in their debt for their generous donation of their time in my kitchen during the event. A big thank you goes out to: Ottilg du Rappoltsweiler Parihan Inez de Alegria Erlender Aibell ingen Chernachain Paige (Erlender and Aibell's daughter) Marina Sam Emma Bibi Maggie Jake of the Debatable Lands Dawn Tomei Lena in Danski Lady Elss of Augsburg THL Urho Waltterinen THL Myfanwy ferch Rhiannon Master Tofi Kerthjalfadsson Vicountess Judith of Kirtland A special Thank You goes out to the kitchen clean up and dish washing crew, who included a number of people that helped cook as well: Sam Anomie Annaleigh Gwendolyn Josiah Boning Lady Elss of Augsburg Master Huen Dambrygge of Wychwood If there is anyone that I forgot, please forgive me and contact me to let me know so that I may apologize and give you the recognition that you well deserve. Just because I failed to get your name in my notebook doesn't mean that your service wasn't appreciated - it means that the cook is forgetful. Thank you all so very much. I would like to thank the good gentles who went above and beyond to make Agincourt a successful event again this year. First, I would like to thank Baron Byron and Baroness Ariella (and their neighbors) for opening up their home to host our event this year. The castle made for a great back drop for the days battles. Also Baron Byron introduced some new folks to Thrown Weapons! Much thanks to my Lady Wife, Constance Glyn Dwr, beyond the work she does at the event, she spent every evening the week prior to the event preparing Chocolates and with the help of Baroness Alex the site tokens. Many Thanks to Elss of Augsburg, Odriana vander Brugghe and the entire Kitchen Staff and helpers throughout the day. Elss with loaves and fishes made a lunch that was planned for 120, feed 192 people.? Odriana made a magnificent feast with five removes. Lord Morien McBain travels a from across our kingdoms borders with Atlantia to ensure that all fighters have a wonderful and safe day of fighting. THL Hilda Hugelman and all who assisted with Troll, who didnt miss a beat when the line to get in stretched? out across the drawbridge. Don Clewin and all who assisted with Fencing, who ran 2 tournaments and were very excited to have a van full of fencers drive arrive and double teh number of fencers. Lady Zoe Akropolatina for organizing the Baronial Youth Champions. Baroness Alex and Baron Sir Alonzio for serving as MOL's for the days Tournaments and fighting. Baron Sir Alonzio and THL Allesandra fro getting up very early on a Saturday morning to assist with our supply of tables and chairs for the day. Lady Yngrid for serving as Chirurgeon and Zoe for serving as Chirurgeon-in-Training. Luckily your services weren't needed. Lord Shiro no Kaminari who through internal strife missed an All Dagger Bear Pit to assist with parking at the event. To Aibell, Harland and Owen, who constantly asked and did without asking anything and everything that needed done. Your view of this event was mainly in the modern kitchen, but your services were unmatched. To Fred and Sam who attended their first event and in the true spirit of our society helped move tables and chairs as well as clean dishes. Mother Nature for the perfect mix of Temperature and Mud to give the battle a true look and feel of the period. Finally, I would like to thank Their Majesties and His Highness for bringing a true spirit of Contest and Comradery to the days events. To all who attended I hope that you enjoyed yourselves and I hope to see you all next year. As with most undertakings, especially if never attempted before, many people are necessary to make a success. The lunch at Agincourt this past Saturday was the first meal I have every produced in the SCA, and it never would have been eatable without these people: ? The fresh baked bread at lunch was the result of the expertise and efforts of Master Alastar Scott MacCrummin, whose help and advice was invaluable. Not only did he lend his equipment, but he oversaw what was essentially an experiment. He kept the ovens full all morning, and offered advice and assistance at every turn. ? The upstairs kitchen was run by Erlender and Lady Aibell ingen Chernachain, who not only put the finishing touches on the soup, but washed dishes, chopped apples, and otherwise kept all things in the kitchen in good order. ? Special thanks go to their daughter, Paige, who ran errands for the kitchen all day. ? If you enjoyed the sugared nuts at lunch, then you should know that Emma and Sandy produced those with little direction from me, and did a great job of it. ? Mistress Mahin Banu Tabrizi turned her hand to many tasks, not the least of which was singing me a song about a discerning pig. ? Without a horde of people who willingly did whatever task I asked of them, I could never have produced lunch at all. For chopping, washing, mixing, testing, serving, ladling, carrying, clearing, refilling, packing, unpacking, and incessant running up and down the steps, I am grateful to: ? Lord Pavel Dudoladov THL Urho Waltterinen THL Myfanwy ferch Rhiannon Maggie Bibi Jan Rankin THL Constance Glyn Dwr Master Alaric MacConnal ? And most especially, many, many thanks for the support, information, kitchen help, and endless patience of Head Cook Odriana vander Brugghe. She endlessly answer my questions, pushed me to do research and to use more period recipes, and was amazingly confident that I could do this. I will work in her kitchen any time. ? Kitchen matters aside, thank you also to those who worked at Troll and sold the Barony Decals. ? If I omit any from this list, please be assured that I am grateful for your help. If I did not mention you, please tell me so that I can thank you by name, and be assured that it was only this new cook?s failure to write down your name in the whirlwind of activity that is a kitchen. ? Thank you all again, ? Lady Elss of Augsburg Nascent Cook -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is a really great opportunity to see some amazing art that is right in your back yard. A docent led tour is a unique experience that really gives depth to the museum experience and affords the opportunity for attendees to ask questions. Please contact Katla before Monday, 2 November 2009 so that the museum may provide the correct number of docents for the tour. The museum is located two blocks off of Route 8 in Butler: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=322+North+McKean+St.,+Butler,+PA+16001&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=28.114729,56.513672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=322+S+McKean+St,+Butler,+Pennsylvania+16001&t=h&z=16 If you have any questions, please contact either Katla or me.
