We will host fighting practice at our home (755 Stonegate Dr., Wexford, 15090), garage or outdoors for the heavy fighters, and in the Great Hall for the fencers. Please don't attempt the driveway if it's snow-covered, though we will make every effort to keep it clear for armor drop-off. The Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands will be hosting their annual 12th Night on Sunday, January 11th. This event will be held at the Dorseyville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, 100 Charles Street Dorseyville, PA 15238. The site opens at 9am and closes at 10pm. The event is FREE. There will be an all day potluck sideboard. As is tradition, the event will include an all-day potluck sideboard (yes, the site is wet, but please bring period containers), pillow fight tourney, fighting outside for those not deterred by winter, and a gift exchange. Typical gifts cost $10-20 and the gift exchange will allow stealing of already opened gifts. In addition, Baronial court and a short Barony meeting will be held. A bardic competition will be held to determine the Baronial Bardic Champion. Please contact the current champion, Liam MacanTsaoir (medicmacintyre15219 at yahoo dot com), for further information. What is a "fabric swap" you ask? It is a place where you bring your wonderful wools that would look so wonderful on someone else, linens that used to speak to you but now won't return your calls, and treasured silks that aren't so treasured now. Other gentles bring their fabric and you trade. No cash is exchanged, just fiber. Fabric swaps are ways to renew your stash without costing a dime. The swap is open from 12 to 5. Its has been a great honor to serve as bard for Their Excellencies over the past year, and I pray that I have served the Barony well. In honor of the great love between Their Majesties and Their Excellencies, I have chosen the theme of Love for the Bardic Challenge. As I stated in a past missive love means many things to many people and your bardic feat does not need to represent the love between a happy couple. I am seeking bards to show love for all things through Poem, Story, and Song. The love can be of a Lad or Lass,? The love of a great Commanding General, or the Love of Food and Drink. I pray you, prepare your songs, sonnets and stories and meet the challenge set forth!! We will be sewing on Sunday Jan, 25 starting about 11am. There is no furnace at the grange right now, but we do have heaters, still dress warm. Some have offered to bring sewing machines, if you would like, that would be great. Other things, scissors, pins, straight edge ruler and chalk will be helpful. For material, a kosode (basic shirt) 3 yards should be good, and for hakama (pants) about 5 yards. Solid, or small repeating patterns and/or small geometric shapes work best. Cotton, linen or silk, but I would suggest for beginning cotton or linen. The quilting department at JoAnn's does have some good prints. As with most things, food is welcome, and if people so want, we can make it a pot luck type thing and sew into the evening. BYOB. Any other questions, please let me know. Please do not try this. The lower part of Harmony road has been close to traffic for many years. (trust me, my family lives on this road) The best way is to take either 279 North to Camp Horn exit Right on Camp Horne, then at the traffic light, Left onto Mt Nebo Road, Or 65 North to I79 North to the Mt Nebo Exit. I have the basic concept of the Hakama so we should be able to quickly whip out some. We can also work on children's clothing! And children are more than welcome to come play with my own children, or to learn some hand sewing if they wish. This will be our first workshop at our home. So bear with us please. You can upload landscape images to Panoramio, and if approved, they get added to Google Earth, which has more layers to explore than the map. ? I've added a bunch of Pennsic landscapes to the site. I hope others will as well. The only real requirements they ask is no indoor shots, and try to avoid shots of just people (and no nudity I believe.) Also, if you add the tag, "Pennsic" it will make it easier for folks to find. So, if you have cool shots of your camp, or whatever, please upload them soon so we can visit a virtual Pennsic this cold, snowy winter... ? See: http://www.panoramio.com/tags/Pennsic/ ? We are looking forward to hosting the second Southern Regional Muster of the winter at our local elementary school gym on Sunday February 15th and hope you can attend! Here are some details: Address: Marshall Elementary School, 5135 Wexford Run Rd, Wexford PA 15090 Time: 2pm-5:45pm We have the Gym and bathrooms adjacent and a custodian will open the school and turn on lights just before 2pm. All food must be eaten in the cafeteria down the hall (water and drinks okay) and a custodian will stay there during the time and clean up starting at 5:45pm. As you drive into the Marshall School campus, you first pass Marshall Middle School on your left then approach Marshall Elementary on your right. Park in the parking lot across from the first entrace and enter there. To find the gym, go straight down the hall in front of you and the door is on the right. Please call us, Byron and Ariella, mka Char Branstetter and Cara McCandless, at 724 933 4661 (home) before 1:30pm that day with questions or email us at caram at pitt.edu. Google maps works well but contact us if you need directions from a specific area. Following much good fighting and melee tactic work, all are invited to our house to order out pizza for dinner, ending around 8:30pm. Showers are also available at our house: 755 Stonegate Dr. Wexford PA 15090. You reach our house by making a right out of the school parking lot, going straight on Wexford Run Rd until it T-intersects Mingo Rd (approx. 0.8 mile), making a left on Mingo and going 1.0 mile to make a right onto Stonegate Dr, our street. Please park on the grass strip off the street and do not oppose any neighbors' driveways. We are eager to see you all and hone our melee skills! Until then, Ariella and Byron -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Jo-Ann's on McKnight Road has some 90% cotton/10% linen undyed jacquard/brocade back in the Red Tag Home Decor fabrics (flatfolds) section. Its Red Tag price is $5/yard, but through the end of the day today (1/31) all red tag home decor fabrics are 50% off. Making this fabric $2.50/yard. :-) It looks like there are three more 8-yard bolts back there. ~~Roana -----
