      Requesting a show of hands for those who will be at practice at the Grange tomorrow.  If people aren't going to show up I will be canceling.  I don't want to have Her Excellency or Sir Mahnus driving all the way to practice and have it just be my ugly face scowling because I am injured and Reynard in armor smiling and waiting for his beatings.  

      As I am not know for my eloquence I will put it plainly.  We were having a great showing at practice until recently.  I am disappointed that people see winter as a time to slack from training.  The Grange costs the Canton money.  It takes my time to be there but I am happy to be there for each and every person who wants to fight.  Show me that you appreciate that by getting to practice.  

      The gauntlet is dropped.  Asses in armor, smiles on faces, the will to fight and the passion to work through the off season is what I want to see.

The 2010 Census is hiring workers in Pittsburgh

In order to qualify you must:

Be a U.S. Citizen

Be at least 18 years old

Have a valid Social Security Number

Take a written test of basic skills

Pass a background check

Have a valid driver's license

Commit to 3.5 days of paid training



Workers can make $11.75 per hour and work up to 40 hours per week,
hours can include nights and weekends.  There is a test, 30 minutes
long and tests basic skills.

The deadline for submissions to the Arts and Sciences edition of the Althing
are due this coming Monday, December 15th. I have but a very small number of
contributions. I might extend the deadline if the number is still low on
Monday.

I have not had the time, or the chance, to meet with people individually and

article or artwork for this issue.

It's happening again!

Greetings unto all, from Michael Greenstein and Cheryl Fattman [Michael Alewright and Katherine Sinclaire]!  Once again, we will open our home on December 31 (from 1:00 p.m. until the wee hours) to ring in the New Year amongst good company.

Like last year, we will provide dinner, a variety of munchies, and a selection of potables (both hard and soft).  You are welcome to contribute to the food and drink if you feel inclined, but we do not require it; your presence in our home is gift enough!  If you desire champagne, though, you are best advised to bring your own.

Associative Coolness applies.  Since you are cool enough to invite, anyone who *you* think is cool enough to invite is welcome.  For folks with allergies: we have three cats.

For those of you who will be arriving during the evening hours, the suggested dress is 'Black Tie Optional.'  Ladies, we know that you all have little black (or other colored) dresses that rarely get to see the light of day ? well, dig them out of the back of the closet and give them some air!  Guys, we also know how much you hate to get dressed up, so wear whatever you like (hence, the 'optional' part), but any man who dons his spiffiest duds gets extra brownie points.  If you want to know what that means exactly, you'll have to show.

We also encourage all of you musically-inclined people to bring along your instruments.  We have two harps and a kazoo as loaners.

Need to crash?  We have an air mattress, some comfy couches, floor space, blankets and a couple spare pillows, and whatever you bring to sleep on (or in).  If you can let us know in advance, it would be helpful.

Our home is at 8012 Westmoreland Avenue in Swissvale, 15218 (use "Pittsburgh" for map programs and GPS units).  Look for the yellow brick house with the red and white porch, decorated with icicle lights.  We will be glad to provide more specific directions at need.

We hope that you will let us know that you are joining us, but what is life without a little spontanaity?

The Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands will be hosting their annual 12th Night on Sunday, January 11th.  This event will be held at the Dorseyville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, 100 Charles Street Dorseyville, PA 15238. The site opens at 9am and closes at 10pm. 

The event is FREE. There will be an all day potluck sideboard.  

As is tradition, the event will include an all-day potluck sideboard (yes, the site is wet, but please bring period containers), pillow fight tourney, fighting outside for those not deterred by winter, and a gift exchange.  Typical gifts cost $10-20 and the gift exchange will allow stealing of already opened gifts.  In addition, Baronial court and a short Barony meeting will be held. As some of you may know, I have moved to the North Hills. The new house does not have enough parking (especially in winter) to accommodate the number of people who usually attend the New Year's Day brunch, so I cannot hold it there. However, the old house is not quite done being renovated, so I still own it. Thus we will have one last, farewell brunch at the old house. Bonus: you get to see what it looks like (mostly) post-renovation. I can assure you, it's very different. :-)

As usual, brunch will begin around noon. This year it will end around 6pm. Alastar has had his arm twisted, er, I mean, volunteered to assist with cooking the hot food again, so there will be the usual eggs, pancakes, sausage, bagels, coffee and juice.There is a lot less furniture than there used to be, so if anyone wants to volunteer to bring folding chairs, let me know.
