Fencing at Delftwood’s Deadly Carnival – February 11
There will be much fencing at Delftwood’s Deadly Carnival! The
fencing schedule is as follows:
11 AM – Delftwood Baronial Rapier Champion Tournament
12 Noon – Tavern Fight Tournament (description below)
2 PM – Deed of Arms (description below)
We'll have a little time before the tournaments for warm-up, pick-ups,
and authorizations.
Tavern Fight Tournament:
There is an angry person holding the tavern preventing everyone else
from getting in. Your job is to get that person out of the tavern. All
you have is your short sword (long blades will get tangled in the
rafters of the low ceiling) and a random item from the tavern.
Apparently, the tavern service is terrible, because if you win, you
become the angry person in the tavern. In other words: this tourney
will be a timed bear pit (time TBD depending on numbers) for short
swords (37" and below) and parry objects (which will be provided).
NOTE THE RESTRICTION ON BLADE LENGTHS.
Deed of Arms:
Earl Yngvar the Dismal, OWS, has already posted the Rules of the Deed,
but I’ve also included them here for easy access.
We will be offering both single combat and melee. Both using counted blows. (5)
The Venans (you) will come in offer an introduction, then tap a shield
indicating what form you wish to fight. The Tenans (us) will then
briefly discuss who will answer the challenge. Then the fight happens.
The forms and shield colors are:
single : blue
dagger : white
case : gold
parry : red
After a certain number of singles we will shift to melee over the
barrier, then back to singles, etc.
Because of space restrictions over the barrier we are asking that
cloaks not be used as parry objects.
For the melee, once you have been hit with 5 telling blows you will
retreat to the designated area, cry your cry and come back to the
barrier. This will go until the judges and gallery are satisfied.
In Service,
Helene
