[SCA-AE] New A&S Policy at Pennsic

Yes but my teenager is allowed to go to the mall and be with friends or shop unless she is causing a disruption.  As teens get older they need to learn responsibility outside parents view to ensure they understand that just cause mom can't see me doesn't mean I can act up.  Just because my child may go to a class without me does not mean I am not being responsible for her.  If she causes a disruption, i'd hope someone took her to security or sent her to me with notice of the problem.  I would then take responsibility and consequence her.  The see/hear rule is per Pennsic law and most other events for those kids under the age of 12.  A sixteen year old can drive and go places without a parent in public, why can they not walk across a campground and go to a class without a parent?

It seems as if again, we are punishing/restricting all because of possible issues with only a few.  Its a shame that a few problematic persons can cause those responsible individuals who send their kids to classes with a camp mate or other adult who accepts responsibility cannot.

I have read many, many comments regarding this "new" rule of parents/guardians being responsible, for their child/ren, at pennsic. I have a simply question; Why are parents trying to NOT be responsible for their child/ren? Isn't there a relatively recent Society Policy that states something like; At any and all SCA events Parents must be able to see and/or hear their minor child/ren? Doesn't pennsic fall under the definition of an SCA event? So what is the issue? It seems to me that parents want to have a vacation, at pennsic, and not have to worry or wonder what their child/ren are up to.

As for PA State Educational Laws, which I am very familiar with, an educator can actually refuse a potential student, IF They are NOT in compliance with any/all Stated Rules and/or Policies, of said educational forum.

If a parent/guardian is not willing to follow the rules, then maybe the parent shouldn't bring their child/ren to pennsic until a better system is put into place regarding parental supervision.

As an FYI; PA State Child Protective Services do have an issue when parents are not supervising their child/ren, especially when out in public. They consider this to be a form of parental neglect.

well to be completely accurate the law is any person over the age of 18 in the united states must carry photo id this is state law (all 50)  and part of the patriot act. and yes a bartender (or cigarette vendor) is required by law to ask for your id but i would love to be the lawyer who landed the case of an educator or the employee of an educator denying a person especially a child their constitutionally granted right to an education (though this only technically applies at pensic)

I think you are confusing demand with request. The police can demand to see
your id if you are driving, and can arrest you if you don't produce it.
OTOH, a bouncer or bartender or salesperson selling restricted material
can't arrest you, but can ask to see your id and refuse service if you do
not produce it (in fact may be legally required to do so). A school door
monitor may request id and refuse you entrance if you do not produce it.
