i triedn to post this last night but it bounced due to length. and i thought
i trimmed it! :)
a wonderful and honorable way to remember a great lady.
i have 2 comments tho.
1st comment:
if such a tourney were to be held, and if society rules allow the monies
collected to be given to the family, i'd like to see the monies be deposited
into an educational trust for her daughter. education was important to her.
2nd comment.
IMHO, which probably isn't worth much, great idea except for one thing. she
wasn't much on fighting. she lived to sew. she sewed and sewed and sewed.
she
sewed for everyone and helped people sew. i wouldn't have a pattern for a
dress with honest to god sewn in SLEEVES if it wasn't for her taking the
time
to make me a pattern. we all know i sew like crap, but i can now make
something other than a t-tunic because of her.
i was once given some hand-me-down garb by a kind soul (thank you!) and one
particular dress didn't fit me well. a number of people looked at it and the
consensus was that, well, i didn't have a big enough 'jewelry display area'
for the dress. SHE took one look at me and said, "no, you're too SHORT." i
haven't been too short for anything since i was too short to ride the big
rides at kennywood when i was 7. but she was right. she took the dress away
from me, took off the sleeves, pulled up the shoulders, put the sleeves back
on and wha-la! it fit. or at least good enough for me. but NOT good enough
for
her. she took off the bazillion buttons down the front of the chest,
adjusted
the seam, and sewed them back on. all the while humming and chattering as if
she was having the most possible fun that could be had on a hot summer's
day.
she insisted on doing it right then, because i wanted to wear it that
weekend.
she didn't have to do it, but she did, because she wanted to make me happy
and
make me look nice. sweet lady.
the last time i talked to her was when i called her from pennsic to ask how
much wool i should buy.
just me, but i'd like to see us remember her with needles rather than
swords.
and then, a rather odd thought occurred to me. how about sponsoring a garb
sale at pennsic? no wait, we can't sell. maybe 'auction'? target it towards
new people, altho anybody could bid. people could donate a new, yet simple
piece of garb and we could have a one day display and 'sale' i mean auction.
or heck we could just sponsor a one day garb exchange - have people bring
used
garb to exchange. i dunno. but something that would get people into clothes
cheaply. better clothes than they have already. stuff for kids too.
something
like that.
yeah, it's 4 am, and this probably won't make much sense in the morning. i'm
sleepy, but i'm having a hard time sleeping.
and yeah, no reason we can't do both things, a tourney and something to do
with needles :)
