It's no wonder we need a Corporate office to oversee this group, with the amount of armchair quarterbacks I'm reading, it would seem that we'd have been pulled apart years ago without them. As none of you want to look at the real problem here, I'll point it out for you. It's us. The one comment I received from my previous message was, "oh, we're not complaining". I've gotten over 100 emails from the SCA-AE list today about this issue, and you're all complaining about how this money is:
"making me so mad I won't continue to participate"
"angering me because a woman in San Fran has a job I'm jealous of"
"making me so mad that I'm going to throw around my 30 years of experience with a former generation to show how much more my words mean than yours"
The reality is, I threw down a challenge, and no one bothered to take it up. It's a membership fee, blah, blah, blah...it's horrendous, the world is ending, blah, blah, blah...
But, what are we doing to bring in more folks to events? what are we doing to add VALUE to our organization? If it's indeed, OUR organization, bring in more people and the insurance issue takes care of itself. OR.... don't, go back to complaining and whining about the above and chances are, I'll never meet you while I'm showing our next generation around Pennsic. It would be a shame, as they're great kids with amazing futures, and I would've loved to have heard your stories of how things, 'used to be' before YOU got burned out and bitter.
I hope some of you take up the challenge of inspiring and enacting some change here instead of filling up our in-boxes with more about a lousy $2.00 increase to a fee many of you don't even pay.
Yours in service to the Dream,
Eirikr inn havi (called edval)
