Thora has been of the most use to me and the most consistent. Don't just read
what she wrote thought. Look through the resources she used that you can get
your hands on. Inter Library Loan is a god send.
As for the time period... this is also my time period. You do have to be careful
the Viking time period does go through the EARLY 1000's. But not much further.
My persona is of 1010.
The main difference is mine is Western and yours is Eastern.
Be careful with Finish. They had some different styles from what is thought to
be common Viking.
Also know that since you are going with Eastern there will be a very strong Rus
influence.
One book that I was able to get via ILL was Viking to Cursader. Lots of
pictures. Lost of Dig information. You do have to be careful with what you read.
some books are way off.
Best advice is to look at as much Dig info as you can via online and articles
and catch the flow. common denominators do start to come out.

I would recommend starting with subscribing to the Norsefolk yahoogroup
and looking at their archives and pictures. Plus I would check out the
Viking Answer Lady and Mistress Thora's websites (google both).
But, maybe someone else can clarify but I thought 11th C was after the
Viking time period? But maybe it lasted longer in Karelia/Finland....?

Subject: [SCA-AE] Question: Need help with Viking aesthetic.
Hi folks.
I'm working on something new. And I need help with where to look for
some information and I need help developing an 'eye' for what is right.
I'm taking my first foray into Viking. Specifically, 11th century
Karelia.
So think Eastern Viking. But general information will help so don't
hold back.
