Heloise,

Actually, they are the current can tabs, it's a new technique being applied to make it happen.

It is rather fun looking, though not very sturdy nor period in design.
its worth a look for the silly factor :D

The other thing I wonder about with this is where people are getting the pop can tabs. I can remember trying to do this back when you had the tabs that would separate completely from the can and had the little metal tab that you could wrap around the next link (though it didn't work very well, as I recall), but they haven't made most pop cans like that in years. As someone said before -- doubly anachronistic. (So I guess I can applaud that!)

This could be a fun project for the Youth.

They get "easy" chain mail, for next to nothing.
And when they are done, they can donate the tabs to the kid who needs 50,000 pop tabs for 2 minutes in a chemotherapy treatment, that they keep advertising over email.

You know the one, where the kid will die if he / she doesn't get the treatment. That they have 2 months to live, and the emails have been circulating for 15 years.

Do you really think any respectable chainmailer in AEthelmearc is going to
spend the time to create something entirely out of poptabs?
