These .pdfs are part of a large collection of textile books, articles, etc., that have been scanned in by (of all places) the Computer Science dept. at the University of Arizona. I found it sort of by accident when I was doing google searches online a couple of years ago and ran across a mention on Countess Ianthe's blog. I don't remember the website URL offhand, but there are all sorts of out of print books on weaving and lacemaking, all available as .pdf downloads. The list of works include 19th century reprints of period embroidery and lace pattern books (which interestingly enough were amongst the earliest printed works in Western Europe). I would have to dig out some of the stuff I've downloaded to get the actual URLs for the main site, but people could probably just do a search for "University of Arizona" and something like "textiles" or "lacemaking" to get to it. It is currently listed as being held Thursday the 19th from 2-4pm. The Ravine battle is scheduled for that morning from 10-12 so there will be a break, hopefully before the Squires Tourney begins. The Tourney is open to all fighters in fealty to a Knight or Master of Arms of the Society. Squires are challenged to come and do battle in an Atlantian Speed Tourney format until a victor shows him or herself from the assembled fighters. It will be a Double Elimination tourney so there will be plenty of fighting. I encourage pick ups after you are out of the lists as these events are GREAT opportunities to fight people and styles completely foreign to how you fight back home. All Knights and Masters of Arms present at Gulf Wars are invited to come to the tourney and to sign the Scroll that is being prepared for the winner of the tourney. Even if you do not have a student competing in the Tourney, please add your name to the scroll as a witness to the combat done that day. If you are able to do so I would appreciate it if some of you good gentles could spread the word of this to the different Kingdom lists. I hope to see many of you at Gulf Wars next week. If not there, then possibly Blackstone Raids or Pennsic. Sinclair Atlantia. I would be MOST grateful if you would visit the Fashion Show webpage http://www.lightlink.com/rhiannon/Ice_Dragon_09/Ice_Dragon09_FASHIONSHOW.html and think about what you could wear to delight the Populace. We're looking for persona's of all ages and countries and time periods. A little bird told me that several pieces of armor will be in that show made by Master Roberto di Milano, for those that know that famous armorer once from our Kingdom. As well as some fabulous costuming work. I still need more more more. We could use some lower and middle class representatives as well, dirty and torn is a plus. Mistress Alison is the contact person on the webpage and at the event (see her to register as per the webpage) and (lord help us all....) Master Daniel del Cavillo will be the emcee. The Show will end with a Grand Promenade around the Main Hall to delight the Spectators. Join us and show up for the Fashion Show at 2:00 PM, Pent Area. (If you've never heard of this event here's the URL http://www.lightlink.com/rhiannon (click on Ice Dragon Pent...2009 NEW) I am begging for display items that you've made that compare your worst or earliest work with your best or much improved work. In other words, I'd love to encourage, educate and amuse spectators with how we start out as newbies re-creating A&S items and how we improve as artists and researchers as we give it another try. I, for one, am going to bring a liripipe hood that I made from an extant hood piece exactly as measured. Unfortunately, I didn't read the description that mentioned that the bottom had been cut off before it was discarded. So it is a very short hood.... I also am bringing the Bocksten Bog Man's hood made afterwards that is more correct (but not perfect, as Mistress Filipia pointed out one Ice D. long ago). You can bring as much or as little documentation as you feel like. However, please put signs on the contrasting objects (Like Worst/Best or Flawed/Better or First One/Much Better One - whatever you come up with to indicate the improvement.). I need your names and AEthelmearc locations on these pieces as well. Can you do this for us and for our A&S community? You'd bring them to the Pent area between 9-Noon for setup on the tables outside the competition area, but in the same Annex as the competition. Please pickup between 4-4:30 PM that day. I know it will take a bit of effort, but please remember that we don't see work at Ice Dragon beyond that made in the last year. So please, dig around that closet and drag out the 'olden days' stuff you made when you were just starting out. Make the Poor Pentocrat happy.
