Noble Cousins!

Greetings from Solveig! There are really three kinds of event, not two:

1. Large events
2. Small-Medium size local events
3. Small-Medium size specialized events

We really need to keep this in mind. For example, there is a
traditional textile event.

As for distances and attendance rates. I see this as having a bunch
of causes:

1. The greying of the kingdom. The kingdom really needs to attract
more 18-25 year olds.
2. Economic factors such as economic anxiety and unstable fuel costs.

The bottom line is that both of these problems need to be addressed.
Events need to be more young adult friendly. There should be more
crash space, more post revels, possibly organized ride sharing, &c.
Economic factors can be addressed by finding ways to reduce
transportation and lodging costs. Recently, these have in some cases
far exceeded actual gate fees complete with on-board with no
discounts. Remember that event fees themselves remain a good deal. We
are basically competing with dinner and a movie.

California is currently reporting an unemployment rate of
approximately 10%. Unemployment will probably get worse for at least
the next six to nine months.
