[SCA-AE] Choc. Milk

Greetings from Tigranes,

In all my posts on this subject, please note I emphasized that the milk is
*not* spoiled, that the process is approved and regulated under all
appropriate health standards. Just because a bottle has gone beyond its
"sell by" date does not mean it is spoiled, or that it must be discarded.
It just means the contents of THAT bottle may not be sold without further
processing. One of the ways that milk can be reprocessed is to
repasteurized, blend with fresh milk, and add the flavoring and sweetener
for chocolate milk. There are many other directions the "old" milk may be
reprocessed and marketed.

This is information from a man who used to work in a commercial dairy
processing facility.
There is nothing sinister, illegal, or (IMO) all that unpallatable about it.
It's just the way they do business. And considering the economic
practicallities, it's safe to assume that the practice is not isolated to
the brand that my friend worked for.

I also conceded that I did not know for fact that Fisher's milk was
processed in that way.

I stand by my contention that a big part of the PCM (Pennsic Chocolate Milk)
mystique is that it is all wrapped up in the pleasant experience so many of
us look forward to each year. I suspect that if one was to have access to
the product year round, it would become more mundane (pardon the term) for
most folks.

I do apoligise to the list for opening such a can of worms. I didn't
anticipate causing such a controversy. I'll drop the subject now, as
nothing more will be gained by further debate.

Yours,

Tigranes
