[SCA-AE] Think about it (was Re: FW: [Mid] Sad news from Lutr and Tessa)

If I may say,
If ANY Royals, Officers, and/or ANY Elected Officials, as it were, have access to the internet, and yes I pay attention, I know that there are some problems, on occasion there, but still, if they have the access, then maybe they should provide valid email address, to Milpitas, and, when they are around 2 months or so from expiring in membership, they will receive an email reminding them to renew. I have, for 9 years, supplied my email, and have always received notices on expiring, in a timely manner.
And, as far as the rules on this issue, when they entered the tourney, they read and were aware of said rules, and agreed to them, just like everyone person before them, and every person after them, and every person in some kind of position, in the SCA, has done for forty years.
This is a "good ol boys club" in almost every case of someone getting hit way to hard, from so and so knight, and all they say is "sorry", and that's on rare occassions. Or someone getting broken bones, whether on purpose or accident, and nothing being done about it.
The Bods and Corpra Officers, and ALL who hold some kind of official capacity, need to remember, THEY would have no purpose if it weren't for ALL of us little people, all of us who are JUST here to have fun, and maybe meet new people, or learn something new.
I, for one, am glad to see TRMS, own up to what happened, and proved they are still real, normal human beings, who happen to play a role in this game.
As Always,

And what if circumstances had played out differently? What if the BoD had
said, "Oh, wow, that really sucks -- we understand completely!" and let
them slide on their membership? Or, instead of saying "We had an attack
of life and screwed up", TRMs decided to keep their mouths shut and
pretend that everything was fine and tried to continue their reign?
How MANY of those currently bitching about the BoD in this forum would
have been bitching about THAT? How many would have been saying how
horrible the BoD was to not follow the rules, and complain about how
*certain* people get special treatment (to quote George Orwell "Some
animals are more equal than others")?
Like Fridrikr said -- this type of thing has happened before (with, I
might add, different sets of Board members), and, IIRC, the results were
pretty much the same. I also remember a case *many* years ago, (out in
Calontir, I think), where the baron and baroness and several officers were
killed in a car wreck driving home from a kingdom Twelfth Night in an ice
storm. (This was sufficiently long ago that I'm pretty sure there's been
a *complete* turnover in the BoD makeup as well as Corporate officers --
if not more than one.) The official response at the time? "Wow, how
terrible! That really sucks!" Then the rest of their barony was told
that they had (IIRC) a month to put together a new slate of officers or
their group was being nuked. Forthwith.
I sympathize with Their Majesties. I've had problems with the disconnect
between the USPS and Milpitas. Three times. It took a Postal Inspector
calling Milpitas to get things straightened out (after a lot of
fingerpointing from both parties). Ultimately, it was *MY* fault for not
paying attention that my newsletters weren't arriving (the problem was an
incorrect barcode, which was sending _AEstels_ and _TI_ issues to the
wrong postal station, which was then returning them to Milpitas as "no
such address").
But the fact remains. It was ultimately *their* responsibility to make
sure that they followed the rules. And if the rule says "you must be a
paid member to enter the Crown lists" then it is ultimately the
responsibility of the entrants to make certain that they are paid members.
Not the Seneschal, not the Earl Marshall (although it would have been
nice to have somebody double-check).
>From what has been posted here, they seem to have owned up that it was
their responsibility, and seem willing to take their lumps. Would that
all of us have done the same, instead of fingerpointing.
