[SCA-AE] FW: [Mid] Sad news from Lutr and Tessa

If I may,

The rule is that if you are in a Crown Tournament, your membership
must be up to date.
The rule is that if you are a reigning Monarch, your membership must
be up to date.

Those who fight in Crown Tournaments are adults. They hold jobs, pay
bills, have children, and have a lot of daily responsibility. They are
treated as adults. As adults know, there are consequences to not
following rules.

There are two rules at the top of this email. The two adults involved
in this did not live up to their responsibilities, therefore, the
consequences of this are now being visited upon them.

The BOD did their job. They followed the rules. If someone bonks Lutr
on the head and wins the Crown for the remainder of the reign, it's
legal, it's lawful, and it's their right. That someone would be
following the rules, they wouldn't have 'stolen' the reign, they would
have won it, just like Lutr won the Crown when he bonked someone. If
everyone in the tournament lays down and allows Lutr to win without
any fighting, it's an invalid tournament and the rules would have been
broken again. Personally, I hope all combatants fight with all their
heart and might. It is, after all, a Crown Tournament.

I may be a minority, but I see the BOD as having acted correctly and
in accordance with the rules of the Society. It's a rule to be a
member if you're reigning. The people reigning have a responsibility
to make sure that their membership is up to date. Lutr and Tessa
didn't live up to that responsibility. Why isn't anyone upset with
them? Why is it the BOD's fault that these two people put off renewing
their membership until it was imperative to have it done? And if they
had waited that long, why didn't they renew it online, as that would
have been faster and there would have been no chance of 'the mailman
ate my renewal'? And does everyone want Monarchs that can't take care
of such a basic responsibility?

The BOD is being *tremendously* nice to allow a tournament for someone
to take over the remainder of the reign (be it Lutr or whoever wins).
Normally, the Regents would reign until the next Crown Tournament
(which will be on the same day as this ad hoc tournament) and that
winner would step directly into the Crown. How many can say that they
would suddenly be ready to step into those shoes on such short notice,
mentally, emotionally or financially when the plan had been for
everything to be in motion in September?

Something to think upon,

addendum:
If one is entering a Crown Tournament, perhaps one should
automatically pay for another year of membership so as to not have to
worry about a lapse, if one should win.

Should one win a Crown Tournament, perhaps one should automatically
pay for another year of membership upon being crowned heir, so as to
not worry about lapse.
